Our Guides: Azul

Azul Marmolejo is a senior student at Harvard College, originally born and raised in a close-knit Mexican family in San Diego, California. Growing up on the West Coast, she never imagined she would find herself across the country, immersed in the rich history and vibrant culture of Boston. Here, she has had the opportunity to meet individuals from all over the world, bring communities together through friendship, and engage in discussions on some of society’s pressing issues. In her free time, she loves grabbing coffee with both new acquaintances and longtime friends. As an experienced public speaker, Azul is passionate about sharing the unique character of this city– where old and new coexist, where history meets innovations, and where every street corner has a story to tell.

Experience & Interests

Azul is pursuing a degree in the history of science and philosophy as she is drawn to the history of medicine from antiquity to the modern world and is fascinated by underlying philosophies that have shaped scientific thought. Did you know that the first successful surgery with anesthesia took place in 1846 at the national historical Ether Dome at Mass General Hospital?

Beyond her studies, she continues to develop her passion for storytelling by helping dozens of students discover the power of their stories as they prepare to apply to college– including her current home, Harvard University.

Languages she speaks fluenty

English and Spanish, currently learning Italian.

A fun fact about her

One of Azul’s fun facts is that she lived in the same residential dorm where John F. Kennedy spent his freshman year at Harvard– a small but meaningful connection to the city and the university’s rich history.

Favorite Boston landmark or hidden gem

Besides exploring Cambridge’s many hidden coffee shops, Azul loves visiting the beautiful St Leonard’s church in the North End, where she feels transported to Rome.
